Vinyl fencing — properly, PVC — has become the default low-maintenance choice across Kennett Square, Malvern and the townships west of West Chester, and it is the second-most-searched material in our territory after aluminum.
Quality varies enormously, and it is the one material where the difference is invisible at the point of sale. Thin-wall vinyl from a big-box supplier becomes brittle in cold, yellows in UV, and cracks when a branch comes down on it. The vinyl we install is co-extruded with a UV-stabilised outer layer and titanium dioxide throughout, with wall thickness rated for a freeze-thaw climate. It costs more up front and it is the difference between a 30-year fence and a 10-year one.
Vinyl runs across the full range of styles: solid tongue-and-groove privacy, semi-private with spaced boards, picket, and post-and-rail for paddock and frontage work. White and tan are the standard finishes; woodgrain-textured and darker colorfast options exist at a premium.

How long does a vinyl fence last?
A quality co-extruded vinyl fence lasts 20–30 years or more in this climate. The variable is material grade: thin-wall vinyl becomes brittle in cold weather and yellows under UV, while co-extruded vinyl with a UV-stabilised outer layer holds colour and impact resistance for decades.
Does vinyl fencing turn yellow?
Quality vinyl does not. Yellowing is a symptom of inadequate UV stabilisation, which is where cheap vinyl fails first. The material we install carries titanium dioxide through the extrusion and a co-extruded UV-resistant cap layer specifically to prevent it.
Is vinyl fencing cheaper than wood?
Usually not up front — vinyl typically costs more to install than pressure-treated wood and is comparable to or slightly above cedar. It costs less over its life, because there is no staining, sealing or board replacement across 20–30 years.
Can vinyl fence panels be repaired if one section is damaged?
Yes. Vinyl is a panel-and-post system, so an individual damaged section or a single board in a tongue-and-groove run can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the fence line. Matching an older finish exactly can be a limitation on discontinued colours.
Does vinyl fencing crack in cold weather?
Quality vinyl formulated with impact modifiers for freeze-thaw climates does not crack under normal conditions. Low-grade thin-wall vinyl does — it loses impact resistance as temperature drops. This is the single biggest reason to avoid big-box fence panels in Pennsylvania.
How is a vinyl fence installed on a slope?
Vinyl panels rack within a limited range, so gentle grades are followed continuously. Steeper grades are stepped, holding each section level and dropping it at the post. Because vinyl racks less than aluminum, slope assessment happens before ordering rather than on installation day.
