Cost & Estimates

How much does a fence cost?

Fence cost is driven by linear footage, material and material grade, height, the number of gates, how much grade the line crosses, site access, and whether an existing fence has to be removed. Two properties with identical footage and identical material can differ substantially. We provide a free written estimate after an on-site assessment rather than quoting a per-foot figure over the phone.

Gates are the most expensive linear feet on any fence — each one needs a deeper or reinforced post, a braced frame and hardware sized to the leaf weight. An automated driveway gate is a different order of magnitude again.

Grade is the next largest variable after material. A line crossing a slope needs either racking or stepping, and a stepped run takes more posts, more cuts and more labour than the same footage on level ground.

On a replacement, tear-out, haul-away and removal of old concrete footings is real work that should be priced explicitly. If a replacement quote does not mention it, ask.

The cheapest fence to install is rarely the cheapest to own. Pressure-treated pine carries an ongoing stain schedule and a 10–20 year life; vinyl and aluminum cost more up front and need essentially nothing across 20–30 years.
